What is a microchurch?

“A microchurch is the simplest unit of the church. The coalescing of three intentional practices: worship, community, and mission.” —Brian Sanders

Refuge Church Network defines a microchurch as a small (8-30 people) expression of church that gathers as a community to worship Christ and serve their neighbors with compassion.

Why microchurches?

Microchurches afford the church the best opportunity to keep the mission of sharing the Gospel as the forefront of its mind as it gather together in homes and small spaces. Central to the DNA of microchurches is multiplication. When a microchurch outgrows its space it is time to multiply. Additionally, microchurches provide greater points of contact in a community with their unique culture and personality. Lastly, microchurches are able to develop authentic community organically due to their size.
